WakeMed Health & Hospitals Recognized by U.S. News & World Report in Nine Different Specialties

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 18, 2013) – WakeMed Health & Hospitals is pleased to announce it has been recognized as high performing in nine of 16 different specialties by U.S. News & World Report. The annual U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

WakeMed’s nine high-performing categories include:

• Cardiology & Heart Surgery
• Diabetes & Endocrinology
• Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
• Geriatrics
• Nephrology
• Neurology & Neurosurgery
• Orthopedics
• Pulmonology
• Urology

In addition, WakeMed is ranked #5 in North Carolina, #4 in the Raleigh-Durham metro area and is recognized among the Best Hospitals in the Piedmont region (NC).

The core mission of Best Hospitals is to help guide patients who need an especially high level of care because of a difficult surgery, a challenging condition or added risk because of other health problems or age. The rankings cover 16 medical specialties and all 94 metro areas that have at least 500,000 residents and at least one hospital that performed well enough to be ranked.
