Legendary Gladys Knight to Perform at the WakeMed Foundation Society of 1961 Appreciation Gala
RALEIGH, N.C. (November 8, 2012) – The WakeMed Foundation will host a special evening with seven-time Grammy winning entertainer Gladys Night on Saturday, December 1. The event will take place at the Raleigh Convention Center featuring dinner, dancing and, of course, an unforgettable performance by the “Empress of Soul.”
The WakeMed Foundation hosts an annual recognition event for members of the Society of 1961, named in honor of WakeMed’s founding year, who are the major supporters of the hospital contributing more than $1,350 annually. Founded in 1995, the members have contributed more than $22 million to fund a wide variety of capital and special projects in support of WakeMed Health & Hospitals’ mission to provide outstanding and compassionate care to all those that seek our services.
Proceeds from 2012 donation efforts will benefit several WakeMed facilities and services, including the WakeMed Children's Hospital and the WakeMed Cary Hospital Women's Patient Resource Center.
Gladys Knight joins an impressive list of special guests that have appeared at the Society of 1961 Appreciation Galas over the years, including include Jay Leno, Ken Burns, Cal Ripken, Bob Newhart, Bob Costas, Cokie and Steve Roberts, Walter Cronkite, Colin Powell, Tom Brokaw and Bob and Lee Woodruff.
