RALEIGH, N.C. (May 6, 2010) – WakeMed Health & Hospitals today announces J. Duncan Phillips, MD, has been hired to serve in two key roles - Surgeon-in-Chief of the new WakeMed Children's Hospital and the Director of Pediatric Surgery for WakeMed’s employed physician practices.
As director of pediatric surgery, Dr. Phillips will build and oversee the development and growth of a new pediatric physician surgery group within WakeMed physician practices that will serve both inpatient and outpatient needs of children in Central North Carolina. Dr. Phillips will begin his new full-time position in Raleigh on June 1, 2010.
"With the opening of our new Children’s Hospital in June, we are developing a range of new pediatric specialty services, and the creation of a surgery group under Dr. Phillips' leadership will be the foundation of this expansion," commented Susan Weaver, senior vice president of WakeMed physician practices.
Since moving to North Carolina in 1999, Dr. Phillips has been Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Pediatric Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
