WakeMed Apex Healthplex Recognized as One of the Most Beautiful Hospitals In America - Archived
RALEIGH, N.C. (August 21, 2009) – WakeMed Health & Hospitals today announces the Apex Healthplex has been recognized by Soliant as one of the 20 most beautiful hospitals in America. Winners were chosen based on measures such as architectural style, photogenic properties, landscaping and distinctiveness.
The building was designed by BBH Design and provides a unique atmosphere for patient care. The design takes advantage of the site’s topography and features a cantilever over the pond, offering calming views from emergency department patient care rooms. Located near downtown Apex, WakeMed’s newest Healthplex features the state’s second stand-alone, 24/7, full-service Emergency Department for both kids and adults, comprehensive diagnostic imaging services that range from general X-ray to advanced CT scans and an onsite laboratory for prompt test results. The site also features an open bore MRI.
The WakeMed Apex Emergency Department is supported by WakeMed Mobile Critical Care Services ground and air transport, 156-bed WakeMed Cary Hospital and Wake County’s only Level I Trauma Center at WakeMed Raleigh Campus.
By midnight on February 3, 2009, the anniversary of WakeMed Apex Healthplex, more than 14,000 patients were treated in the emergency department. This is more than 3,000 patients than originally anticipated. These patients have ranged from cardiac patients with active heart attacks to women in labor to kids broken bones. In fact, reflective of the Apex market, 29 percent of total patients have been under the age of 18.
