Admission to Hospital after Surgery

Day Surgery at WakeMed Cary Hospital

Preparation for Admission to Hospital after Surgery

If your surgeon has said that you will remain in the hospital after your surgery, here are some helpful suggestions:

Pack an overnight bag with small amount of personal care items such as:

  • Bathrobe and slippers
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste or denture cleaning items
  • Comb or hairbrush

While you are having your procedure, it may be a good idea to keep this overnight bag in your or a family member's car. Before you go back for your procedure, your family will be given your clothing and personal items for safe keeping. We suggest that your family take these items to the car Your family can bring these items to your room after surgery.

You will be assigned a room while you are in the PACU (post anesthesia care unit). When you are ready to be transferred to your room, the PACU staff will contact your family by using the pager. If your family is not at the hospital, you can contact them once settled in the assigned room. Family members are not permitted to visit while you are in the PACU.
