Fitness Programs

 

Safeway to Fitness

Safeway to Fitness is a Healthworks program designed to meet identified needs of individuals in our community who have either completed the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program or who want or need structure and supervision in an exercise program. The Safeway to Fitness program will follow applicable policies and procedures of WakeMed Rehab and Healthworks, including confidentiality, emergency situations and safety and security.

Each hour-long class is directed by a qualified health professional.  This program also offers a monthly coffee social hour that incorporates fitness education.

Features

  • Initial consultation, exercise prescription and goal setting
  • Blood pressure and heart rate monitoring
  • Organized group warm-up and cool-down led by an instructor
  • Individualized exercise/cardiovascular activity with supervision and assistance
  • Exercise stations including treadmills, stationary bikes, rowing machines, arm crank ergometers, elliptical cross-trainers, circuit weight training and an indoor walking track
  • Educational lectures
  • A variety of classes offered each week to suit your active schedule
  • Locker and shower facilities with towel service

Sit and Be Fit

An exercise and movement program on land or water for individuals with physical limitations and/or limited mobility designed to improve range of motion, strength and ability to perform activities of daily living.

Class Times: The land portion of this program meets Tuesday and Thursday from 11:15am - 12pm.  Tuesday is in the gym doing group chair aerobics. 

Thursday is in the fitness center and patients are supervised and assisted when needed.

Healthy Moves / Healthy Foods

A fun and easy way to get your body moving and your eating back on track, this 10-week practical exercise and nutrition program provides individuals with twice-weekly instructor-led, comfortable movement classes.  A certified fitness instructor teaches participants how to safely exercise and improve their fitness level.  Once a month, a registered nutritionist teaches participants how to put together easy, balanced meals and snacks, as well as tips for health on the run. 

Cost: Click here for pricing. Class fee includes a 10-week membership to Healthworks Fitness Center.  You do not have to be a member to participate.

Class Times 

  • Classes held at 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Healthworks Gym
  • 60-minute sessions, twice weekly for 10 weeks

Youth Fitness
This program is especially for overweight and/or inactive children. Kids age 7 and older learn about the importance of exercise in a non-competitive and fun environment. The goal? To reduce future health problems often associated with an inactive lifestyle.

Yoga Fitness
Classes include postures for stretching, proper breathing, deep relaxation and self-awareness, all aimed at creating a healthier mind and body.

Specialized Fitness Programs
These programs are designed to meet the needs of those with specific medical conditions, like multiple sclerosis and arthritis, as well as those recovering from joint replacement or other surgeries. The primary focus is on improving strength, range of motion, flexibility, balance and functional fitness in a social, interactive setting.

Fitness Consultations
Consultations are offered to those beginning a fitness program for the first time, or for those who are re-starting their fitness program. A fitness specialist will discuss your personal goals and the most appropriate exercise program for you.
