WakeMed Stroke Program

WakeMed Recognized for Excellence in Stroke Care

WakeMed Health & Hospitals is the only Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center in Wake County.  The WakeMed Stroke Team is made up of specially trained physicians, nurses and therapists, who are dedicated to the care of stroke patients.

This expertise has benefitted over 1,700 patients since WakeMed Raleigh Campus and North Healthplex were originally certified as a primary stroke center in August 2006 by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), earning the Gold Seal of ApprovalTM for stroke care. In 2008, Raleigh Campus and North Healthplex were recertified as primary stroke centers.  Cary Hospital and Apex Healthplex also met primary stroke center criteria in 2008.

The Inpatient Stroke Specialty Program - Hospital, Adult, Children and Adolescents - at WakeMed Raleigh Campus Rehab Hospital has been accredited by CARF.
