Patients and construction personnel driving north on Falls of Neuse Road currently use a temporary vehicle entrance to access the front parking lot at North Healthplex. This will become a permanent entrance when all construction is complete and the new hospital opens.
For the Durant Road entrance, crews have completed installing a median that creates a permanent "right-in and right-out" condition. This means visitors coming from Falls of the Neuse and turning onto Durant Road can no longer turn left into the North parking lot, nor can they turn left onto Durant when leaving the parking lot.
Steel, concrete and glass are rising skyward as construction continues on the long-awaited expansion of WakeMed North Healthplex, which will become a full-service hospital in May 2015. A 131,000-square foot expansion and an 8,550-square foot central plant are being added to our existing 109,250-square foot North Healthplex. In the end, North Hospital will expand over 248,800 square feet. See below for a timeline of construction progress:
