WakeMed Apex Healthplex Celebrates One-Year Anniversary, Adds New MRI Service

Apex, N.C. (February 4, 2009) – Since opening to the public on February 4, 2008, Apex Healthplex has been an outstanding addition to the Apex and Western Wake communities. Far above WakeMed’s original estimations, the facility has served the health care needs of more than 14,000 local residents.

Apex Healthplex offers a 24/7, full-service Emergency Department (ED) for adults and children, on-site lab services, and a variety of imaging services including CT scan, mammography, bone densitometry, radiography and ultrasound.

This past December, the facility also added a mobile, open-bore MRI machine that has proven to be a great success. Due to its size and scope, it is the only MRI in this area capable of serving overweight patients and claustrophobic patients without sedation. Offering body, musculoskeletal and neuro MRIs, the service is open from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday (with hours extended to 8 pm on Wednesday), and actively services the facility’s ED. Because it does not use radiation, Apex Healthplex’s MRI presents a safer way to detect and diagnose certain diseases, tumors and spinal ailments.

Record Numbers at Apex Healthplex!
To date, the facility has…
-Performed 81,725 ED and outpatient lab tests.
-Served 801 walk-in outpatients.
-Performed 12,161 total Imaging studies
- 2,522 for outpatients
-9,638 ED patients.
