Construction on the new Patient Tower is scheduled to begin this month. This four-story addition, sized at approximately 168,000 sq. feet, will include 60 new patient beds, 82 medical/ surgery beds, 20 replacement Intensive Care Unit beds and ancillary/support services. When the project is complete, it will also be the site of the new main entrance and lobby, with direct connections to the hospital by way of the A and C Wings and the Heart Center.
To make space for the tower, the P1 Green Visitor Parking Deck has been torn down. In mid-April, the main entrance and the Rehab Hospital entrance will be closed permanently. The Health Park will serve as the new main entrance for employees, physicians, patients and visitors throughout the two-year construction. Construction on a new parking deck that will include spaces for 700 visitors and 500 employees will begin in late March on the surface lot that is now Employee Lot 5.
A shuttle service for off-site parking will begin in mid-April for many employees who are non-direct caregivers. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the hospital will also be rerouted.
The new visitor and employee parking deck is scheduled for a March 2009 completion, while the new Patient Tower should be complete by December 2009.
